The novel follows the story of Maggie, a young woman who returns to her childhood home in the mountains after the death of her mother. Maggie is struggling to come to terms with her mother's death and her own feelings of loss and grief.

Maggie returns to her home in the city, but she is forever changed by her experience in the mountains. She has learned to let go of her grief and to embrace the future. She has also found love, and she knows that she will never be alone again.

Sarah Jane Smith is a debut novelist who lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied English and creative writing. Fly Away Home is her first novel.
