Excerpt from Tonight

The fog was thick and heavy, shrouding the streets of London in an eerie silence. The only sound was the muffled clop of horses' hooves on the cobblestones. Detective Inspector Charles Arrowood stood on the steps of the police station, watching as the city slowly disappeared into the mist.

Arrowood was a tall, imposing figure, with a sharp wit and a keen eye for detail. He had been working on the case of the murdered young women for weeks, and he was no closer to finding the killer. The victims were all young and beautiful, and each one had been killed in a gruesome and bizarre manner.

Arrowood knew that he was dealing with a dangerous and sadistic killer. He also knew that time was running out. The killer was growing bolder with each murder, and Arrowood feared that it would not be long before he struck again.

As Arrowood turned to go inside, he saw a figure moving in the shadows. He stopped and watched as the figure approached. It was a young woman, dressed in a simple white gown. Her face was pale and her eyes were wide with fear.

"Help me," she whispered. "He's after me."

Arrowood reached out and took her hand. "I'm here to help you," he said. "What's your name?"

"My name is Mary," she said. "He's going to kill me."

Arrowood looked into Mary's eyes and saw the terror in them. He knew that she was telling the truth. He also knew that he had to find the killer before it was too late.
